Preparing Your Sea-Doo Jet Ski For Winter Storage
Summer is done, Autumn is bringing cooler weather with it, and soon, your excitement-packed weekends on the water become fewer, as water temperatures drop and the cool air makes you want to find a warm place to hibernate for a few months while winter is here. Although in Queensland, we are lucky enough to have mild winters, the cooler months can still wreak havoc on your ski if it isn’t cared for the right way.
When it comes to preparing your Sea-Doo jet ski for winter, it’s important to take into account the significance of pre-winter storage servicing, and ensuring your Sea-Doo is in suitable conditions through the winter months.
One of the most critical steps of Sea-Doo maintenance for winter is storing your Sea-Doo properly. But what exactly does that entail? To ensure the safety and longevity of your watercraft during the winter months, it’s essential not only to create optimal storage conditions but also to follow a maintenance checklist before tucking your Sea-Doo jet ski away for the season if you don’t plan on hitting the water.
CHOOSING THE IDEAL STORAGE ENVIRONMENT
Ideally, your Sea-Doo should be stored in a well-ventilated, climate-controlled space that is shielded from the elements, such as a garage or dedicated storage area. However, practical constraints may limit your options. If these ideal conditions are not feasible, there are still steps you can take to protect your Sea-Doo effectively.
Elevate your Sea-Doo on a jet ski trailer, (ours start at $2490.00) which not only facilitates manoeuvrability but also safeguards the hull. Keep it shielded from the elements by covering it with a Sea-Doo cover (find one to suit your model here) at all times. If possible, store it in a shaded location, such as a carport.
During harsh weather conditions, like storms, heavy rains, hail, or extreme temperature drops, check on your Sea-Doo regularly. Prevent condensation or accumulated water that could lead to rust or other damage. Dry off excess water with a towel when applicable to avoid scratches and dents.

Fill the Tank
While it may seem odd to worry about fuel when your Sea-Doo is in storage, filling the tank can help protect it from condensation, especially during frosty winter nights.
Change the Oil
Changing the oil is a standard best practice in Sea-Doo maintenance, akin to regular dental cleanings. It helps prevent more severe and costly issues down the line.
Drain Water from the Engine
Ensure you drain water from the engine, a good practice in general, but especially crucial before storing your Sea-Doo. This prevents rust, mould, and mildew buildup, and avoids unpleasant odours caused by stagnant water over weeks or months.
Thoroughly Clean and Dry
Give your Sea-Doo a comprehensive cleaning after your last ride, removing debris and dirt buildup from all nooks and crannies. A sparkling clean Sea-Doo, free from water, is essential before placing the cover on.
